Getting a new roof, is any part of the process NOT a scam?

Hail damage, from last summer. Insurance will pay for it. Interviewing roofing companies.Everyone involved has been questionable so far. Not sure I've had an experience quite like this. Been looking for BBB ratings and researching online, but ick. Also, every roof tile is good, and then also, it is bad. Feel free to offer any advice if you've been through the process. Or not. It's The Lounge. TIA.
